We are lucky enough to eat every day so we had a hunger lunch to help us think about what it might mean to be in a group of people who don’t get enough nutritious food.
Through random selection we were put in the following groups to represent three different income groups of the world’s population.
- High Income – 10 students ate pizza, crisps, chocolates and drank juice.
- Middle Income – 30 students had chicken, vegetables, rice and bananas and had water from their own bottles.
- Low Income – More than 70 students had plain rice and had to travel for their water.
When asked if how the food was distributed was fair, Athiphou (high income group) responded, "No, because first we tried to share food then people started stealing food and some people didn't get any."
